What is life?

The characteristics of life are: Made up of cells, reproduce, respond to surroundings, grow and develop, energy, contain similar chemical

John’s parents should keep him on the machine till he starts showing progress and if he does not show any progress or if he gets worse they should take him off. And if the money gets a problem they can ask family members for help. The growing of his hair and nails shows that there is still life in him. Also that he swallows making gurgling noises, maybe he’s trying to talk.

I think the Socratic seminar was fun. I was an active listener and referred back to the text. I made comments that demonstrated good knowledge of the text, but I could have done more of it. I think I was a proficient critical thinker participant and I came prepared.

Semester 1 Reflection

  1. My highlights of Science 6 was the human water displacement tank, because I learned that our body has a particular and different volume than others and it was fun going inside. Another highlight was working with hat partners on the rock cycle simulation when we scraped the crayons and packed them in aluminum foil and burned them over the candle.

    2.  Something that was challenging for me was was choosing who to sit with because it distracted me                                from my learning.   

    3. My goals for Science 6 semester 2 is to do my homework quicker and properly and not hesitate with it. Another goal is to focus on my learning and make my vocabulary bigger.

What are some things that you feel proud of learning in science class so far this year?

I feel proud of measuring with TBB and with rulers and meter sticks. I am also proud of finding the mass of  objects.

What are some challenges you have faced in science class so far this year?

I think some challenges for me is sometimes to measure volume and read the questions carefully on the tests.

What are some things you would like to improve upon? 

Some things I would like to improve on is to calculate between measuring units, (The King Henry slide).

How do you plan to do this? What help/ resources would you need?

To do this I’ll have to practice using the King Henry slide in my science notebook or in my iPad

Narrative Reflection

The fantastic freekick
I stood there with the ball in front of me. My legs was like two horses ready to run from their gates. My teammates and the audience held their breath. I was ready to shoot the ball. The referee blew his whistle and I started running towards the ball. Boom!
The next morning I woke up early. I knew that I had the last match in Norway Cup this day. It was my teammates and my first time in Norway Cup. My father had made eggs for breakfast. The eggs smelled delicious. I sat down to eat. “Aren’t you excited for the last match son?” My father said. “Your team is almost unbeatable!” I nodded with my mouth full of eggs and bread. After breakfast my father and I went to our car. It was a warm summer day and no clouds. A perfect day to play a match on.
I arrived at the pitch just in time. Soon everyone came and we started the warm-up. My team ran in two lines and then passed some ball. Our coach called us into a circle. “The game is about to start lads. The team we are playing against have won all their matches also. Our daily captain is Eduard!” The coach shouted. He made our positions till the referee blew his whistle to get the two teams on the pitch. I was central midfielder. The referee called the captains on both teams and flipped coin. Heads, it was our ball. All the players shook hands. “C’mon Ready!” I screamed. I was ready.
The game had started I rolled the ball to our defender. He is a beast. My team passed the ball and kicked it up and down. The other team got possession and passed it. Suddenly, I got the ball. I dribbled side to side, and then the other teams’ midfielder tripped me.
The referee’s whistle screamed. I got a freekick! The striker on my team gave me a high-five. The other team started complaining, but it didn’t help. They made a wall to block the shot. I took four steps back and one to the side. I knew that this was my moment. I looked from the goalkeeper to the dirty soccer ball. “I will kick this right in the top right corner.” I thought to myself. I looked at the referee. He gave me a sign that the stage was all mine. I ran towards the ball and shot. I help my breath like everyone else. The ball flew through the air like a bullet. It smacked the post and went into the goal. Yessss! I scored! The audience and my teammates yelled and clapped. I was so happy, and I ran through my team and jumped.
The rest of the match went through easily. My team scored four goals and our opponents scored one. It was the best cup I had ever played. I won all my matches. I was reminded that I really like football. I want to play it while I grow up and to do that I have to play a lot. My dream is to be professional and play on TV. To do that I can’t let me down if I make mistakes or if I fail.


Going through phases

What did you do?

We observed the different phases and collected data.

What tools did you use?
Thermometer, beaker, hot plate, safety googles, protection gloves, iPad.

What was the procedure for this investigation?
1: We put the icecubes in the beaker and placed it on the hot plate (hot plate was on 4)

2: We put the thermometer in the beaker and recorded temperature.

3: Every 4 minutes we recorded qualitative and quantitative data with the thermometer.

4: Slowly the icecubes turned into liquid, and then when we set the hot plate to its highest rate, the water turned  into gas.

A. Investigation part I (Solid – Liquid phase change)
How phases changes throughout a short activity.

When did you notice a change in temperature?

When the liquid turned into gas, the temperature got higher.

What did you observe about the temperature of the water over time once the ice was completely melted?

After the icecubes got melted, the water wasn’t as cold as the icecubes, so it was higher.

Why did the temperature of the water stop rising?

According to our data table, the temperature of the water continued rising.

B. Investigation part II (Liquid – Gas phase change)

1. What was added to the water in the beaker on the hot plate that caused the temperature to change?

We were adding heat to the water in the beaker to change the temperature.

2. Describe the temperature of the water while it was being heated to the point of evaporation.

The temperature got higher and higher and the water started bobbling.

3. Did the temperature reach boiling point before or after the water began to evaporate?
It reached boiling point before and while it began to evaporate.

What are some reasons that your data/ results may not be accurate?
Some more thinking:
We may have seen wrong on the thermometer.

1. What if water only was in solid form? How would it effect our bodies?
Because our bodies contains liquid, it would be hard.

2. What if metals were only available in liquid form? How would if affect the way we travel?
It wouldn’t be possible to travel with car or plane or train or ships because all of them is made of metals. Then you would have to go by wooden boat or horse and carriage or just walk.
